Aberdeen, Maryland, issues RFP for purchase and installation of Philips Hanover Lantern LED streetlights

The city of Aberdeen, Maryland, has initiated its first energy efficient streetlight project. The proposed installation includes the purchase and installation of twenty nine decorative LED streetlight fixtures which will be installed on city-owned property and will replace existing utility owned fixtures. The program is in alignment with State of Maryland energy efficiency goals.
The city was awarded $80,000 from a formula based grant which was funded by the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. A portion of this award will be used to purchase and install the new LED streetlight fixtures.
“This installation is our pilot program to determine if anticipated savings will be realized. If it is successful, we plan on doing additional installations,” said Richard Kosko, public works engineering technician for the city of Aberdeen. The Request for Proposals (RFP), which was issued on April 6, 2011, specifies that the fixtures to be used in the installation are those manufactured by Philips Hanover Lantern of Littlestown, Pennsylvania. “The Hanover fixtures exactly match the existing metal halide fixtures, and are visually a perfect fit for the location,” said Kosko. According to Kosko, the city expects to receive a rebate as well as a changed tariff for the energy efficient streetlights from energy provider Baltimore Gas and Electric.
Complete bid specifications are available on the city of Aberdeen’s website. In addition to the twenty nine LED streetlights, the bid has a second component which solicits bids for forty four interior LED light fixtures. Complete bids must be submitted to the city of Aberdeen by April 25, 2011.
