Asheville, North Carolina, seeks bids for 2,913 LED streetlights

The city of Asheville, North Carolina has re-issued a Request for Formal Bids and Proposals for the purchase of 2,793 new LED streetlights. The LED streetlights are part of a larger city-wide initiative to increase energy efficiency and reduce the city of Asheville’s carbon footprint. Long-term goals include replacement of all of the city’s 8,300 existing high pressure sodium (HPS) and mercury vapor streetlights.
The LED streetlight project is funded by a grant from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. Fixtures specified in the bid document have been pre-approved by Progress Energy, the regions energy utility. Pre-approved manufacturers include BetaLED, Leotek and General Electric. Specifically, the bid document is soliciting bids for 2,793 seventy-five watt fixtures, eighty-two 105 watt fixtures, and thirty-eight 215 watt fixtures manufactured by the specified companies.
The delivery schedule calls for a first delivery of fixtures by November 21, 2011, followed by incremental batches of two hundred fixtures until June 18, 2012.
Completed bids are due on September 21, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. EST to the City of Asheville Purchasing Division. Bid documents can be found here.
