Deming, New Mexico, to install 100 solar powered LED streetlights
Tuesday, August 3, 2010
By New Streetlights staff
The city of Deming, New Mexico has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the delivery and supply of one hundred solar powered LED streetlights. The LED fixtures will be installed on existing gas fueled streetlight posts. The purpose is to replace the existing source of power with solar power. Funding for the project is from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.
Unlike most LED streetlight projects, the installation in Deming is aimed at re-creating the ambience of a gas light, not creating intense illumination. Each LED fixture must be equipped with a photo cell to automatically turn on and off based on sunlight.
Bids will be accepted until 1:30 p.m. on September 7, 2010 at the Deming City Council chambers. The bids that are received will then be evaluated by the City Council on September 13, 2010. Bid specifications and the complete bid documents are available from Lawrence Brookey, assistant public works director, via email at lbrookey@cityofdeming.org.
