Fairfax, California, seeks bids for decorative LED streetlights

The town of Fairfax, California, seeks bidders for decorative LED streetlight fixtures for its first installation of energy efficient streetlights in the downtown corridor. The town selected solid-state lighting as the preferred technology for its energy efficient streetlight program. The project is funded by a $38,000 grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) and is expected to commence in early 2012.

“This is the town’s first installation of LED streetlights, and we anticipate significant savings from the reduced energy consumption of the new streetlights,” said Michael Rock, town manager and public works director for the town of Fairfax. Depending on bid results, town officials hope to replace all of the town’s existing streetlights in the downtown corridor and on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The downtown location includes Broadway and Bolinas Road. Plans include the purchase and installation of approximately sixty decorative acorn-style LED fixtures. “We deliberated carefully between induction and LED technology, but ultimately decided that LEDs were the direction we going,” said Rock. The town of Fairfax will pay a flat rate based on the energy consumption of the LED fixtures, which should result in energy savings of over 50%.

According to the bid document, bidders may submit bids for either the lamp replacement or a full fixture replacement. For the lamp replacement, the bid specifies the GE Evolve tiered cone fixture or an approved equivalent. For the fixture replacement, the bid specifies Relume, or an approved equivalent.
