The city of Galt, California, has revised its strategy for a planned LED streetlight replacement project. In May 2010, city officials applied for grant in partnership with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), in addition to applying for a formula based grant from the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. While the city did not receive the competitive grant in partnership with the SMUD, Galt did receive an award of $133,736 from the EECBG program. The city will use the EECBG funds in combination with a $55,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to fund the purchase and installation of up to three hundred LED streetlight fixtures.
“We anticipate replacing two hundred to three hundred existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights with LED streetlights, depending on bid results,” said Trung Trinh, project manager for the city of Galt. Earlier, city officials indicated that the LED streetlight replacement project will focus predominantly on arterial streetlights along Highway 99.
According to Trinh, the city will issue a request for proposals (RFP) for time, labor and materials for this project. It is anticipated that the RFP will be issued by the end of 2010 or in early 2011.
