The city of Grandview, Missouri, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) that includes LED streetlights as it prepares for Phase 4 of a multi-phase streetscape revitalization of the city’s Main Street. The project location will be west of 15th Street to the West Frontage Road. An essential component of the fourth phase of the project will be the design and installation of LED roadway lighting. The energy efficient streetlights are a continuation of the previous phases which also involved LED streetlight fixtures.
“The first three phases included a total of about 94 LED streetlights, both cobrahead and decorative fixtures. We hope to install about 30 fixtures in the fourth phase,” said Larry Finley, city engineer for the city of Grandview. Final plans for the style and number of LED fixtures have not yet been determined, as the Request for Proposals (RFP) issued for Phase 4 includes a design component. As a continuation project, Phase 4 is considered an extension of the previous three projects. “We may use a combination of cobrahead and decorative LED fixtures in Phase 4, but that will be determined in the design of the project,” said Finley.
City officials estimate that the installation of LED streetlights has reduced energy consumption by approximately 50 percent. “All of the Main Street streetlights are metered, so we are able to accurately gauge energy consumption,” said Finley. The city of Grandview owns and operates about 75 streetlights, the majority of which are targeted for replacement with LED fixtures. The remaining 1,200 city streetlights are leased from energy provider, Kansas City Power and Light.
Complete bids must be submitted to the city of Grandview by Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. General bid specifications can be found here. Complete bid documents must be requested from the city directly.
