By New Streetlights staff
The city of Greenbelt, Maryland, has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for energy efficient lighting fixtures involving funds from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The initiative represents Greenbelt’s first step in a new effort to establish energy efficient roadway lighting. The $93,000 federal EECBG award is locally administered by the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA). The city of Greenbelt plans to install 80 energy efficient fixtures, including 56 LED fixtures.
The existing fixtures targeted for replacement are high pressure sodium (HPS) and metal halide streetlights located in municipal parking lots and pathways. The HPS fixtures are 150 watt and 400 watt fixtures and the metal halide are 400 watt fixtures. According to the bid document, the LED fixtures must be 120 watt equivalent and result in total energy use reduction of at least 50 percent. The bid document specifies a BetaLED fixture; however, approved equivalents will be considered. Photometric specifications include a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 4,300 ±300 Kelvin and a color rendering index (CRI) > 70. Bidders must also supply LM-79 and LM-80 reports for each submitted fixture.
A pre-proposal conference is scheduled for February 27, 2012, at the Greenbelt Municipal Building. Completed bids must be submitted to the city of Greenbelt by March 5, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. The complete bid document can be found here or here. For additional information, interested bidders should submit questions to the project manager, Jim Sterling, assistant director of public works at jsterling@greenbeltmd.gov.
