Hendersonville, North Carolina, issues RFP for 32 LED streetlights

As part of a “Main Street Initiative,” the city of Hendersonville, North Carolina, has received funding to replace existing streetlights with LED streetlight fixtures. The initiative is funded by a $52,200 grant from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The state program is locally administered by the North Carolina Energy Program. The project includes the purchase of thirty-two LED streetlight fixtures.
The Hendersonville LED streetlight installation is one of a multi-phase energy efficiency upgrade of the city’s downtown business area. In addition to the streetlighting upgrade, the city is also involved in upgrading the energy efficiency of several downtown businesses. The city of Hendersonville has a long term goal of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, which city officials hope to couple with a positive economic impact. The Request for Proposals (RFP) specifies the General Electric model EPAS0B5D41A5FFGRN LED streetlight fixtures, or equivalent, for the project. This LED fixture is locally manufactured. City officials hope that the Main Street installation will also serve as a demonstration area for the local GE manufacturing facility.
