Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities seeks bids for 837 LED streetlights

The Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities (IAMU), an organization which serves over 500 municipal utilities in Iowa, seeks bidders for 837 LED streetlights for a number of Iowa communities.
The IAMU has been actively working with its member organizations to promote the implementation and use of LED streetlights because of the technology’s energy efficiency and performance benefits. A significant number of IAMU member communities were recipients of federal Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funds, which are locally administered by the Iowa Office of Energy Independence. To maximize purchasing power, the IAMU is assisting interested member communities in combining grant awards for the purchase of LED streetlights. IAMU has issued a Request for Proposals for the purchase of 837 LED streetlight fixtures.
“This is a coordinated effort to assist the member utilities in achieving economies of scale,” said Jonathan Roberts, energy services engineer for the IAMU. The RFP is based on member interest and funding availability, and the number of fixtures specified in the bid document is an estimate.
The RFP seeks bids for several types of LED streetlight fixtures, which will replace existing 70 watt, 100 watt, 150 watt, and 250 watt high pressure sodium (HPS) roadway fixtures.
IAMU seeks 391 LED fixtures to replace existing 250 watt HPS streetlights. Acceptable LED luminaires for this portion of the bid include products from: Beta LED, a division of Cree/Ruud Lighting of Sturtevant, Wisconsin; Cooper Lighting, of Peachtree City, Georgia; and Leotek Electronics, of Milpitas, California.
The Iowa association also seeks 316 LED fixtures to replace existing 150 watt HPS streetlights. Acceptable LED luminaires for this specification include BetaLED; Cooper Lighting; Holophane, of Granville, Ohio; Leotek; and Philips Lumec, of Quebec, Canada.
IAMU also seeks 130 LED fixtures to replace existing 70 watt and 100 watt HPS streetlights. Acceptable LED luminaires for this specification include BetaLED, Cooper Lighting, Holophane, Leotek, and Philips.
Complete bids must be submitted to the IAMU by 5:00 p.m., January 18, 2012. The IAMU will accept questions and requests for clarification until January 13, 2012. The complete bid document can be found here. Questions may be referred directly to Jonathan Roberts at jroberts@iamu.org.
