Marysville, Washington, issues RFP for 63 LED streetlights

Success with energy efficient LED streetlights is guiding the city of Marysville, Washington, toward a second installation on city streets. Funded by a $84,489 grant from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, the city plans to purchase and install about 63 new LED fixtures. The EECBG award is locally administered by the Washington State Department of Commerce. Approximately $55,000 of the total grant will be used for LED streetlights.
“We have one previous installation of about 12 LED streetlights, and we have been very satisfied with the performance of the fixtures we installed. We feel like these fixtures provide us with a lot of lighting options,” said John Tatum, traffic engineer for the city of Marysville. The first installation included replacement of existing cobrahead streetlights with LED fixtures manufactured by Leotek Electronics of Milpitas, California.
For the upcoming EECBG-funded installation, the city has not specified the Leotek fixture in the bid document, but is seeking specific performance and fixtures specifications which are unique to the Leotek product. City officials are hopeful that more funding can be identified for future installations. “We are looking for additional funding of about $20,000 for the purchase of another eighteen LED fixtures,” said Tatum. All of the streetlights included in the proposed installation will be metered to determine actual energy consumption, according to Tatum.
Completed bids must be submitted to the City Clerk at the Marysville City Hall by Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. PST. Plans, specifications and plan holder lists are available through the Builder’s Exchange of Washington. A summary of the bid is available here.
