Miami-Dade County, Florida, has developed a pilot program to test energy efficient streetlighting on county roadways. The program currently focuses on only new installations which involve complete poles and fixtures. Only LED streetlight fixtures are being considered at this time.
In the first phase of the deployment, the county installed 26 LED streetlights and poles. For the second pilot installation, the county will install 22 LED streetlights, poles, and all associated wiring. “Miami-Dade County considers these projects to be pilot programs to test LED technology,” said Jean Bernard Philippeaux, engineer for Miami-Dade County. The county is currently soliciting bids for the poles and LED fixtures. The project, funded by an award from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program is valued at approximately $189,800. The anticipated completion date for the installation is March 2012.
A Request for Price Quotations (RPQ) was issued on October 27, 2011 with completed bid documents due by November 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. An optional pre-bidders conference is scheduled for November 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the offices of the Miami-Dade County public works department. The RPQ overview can be found here.
