Mountain View, Wyoming, replaces all of its streetlights with LED fixtures from Lighting Science Group

The town of Mountain View, Wyoming, recently concluded an LED streetlight installation which replaced all of the towns existing fixtures with new energy efficient streetlights. The project was funded by a $127,000 award from the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. Total project costs were far below projected estimates, resulting in a partial return of the EECBG award. A total $49,490 was used for the 56 streetlight fixture installation.
Town officials chose the Prolific series LED streetlight luminaire manufactured by Lighting Science Group, a manufacturer based in Florida. Initial calculations indicate that the LED fixture will consume about 60% less energy than the existing metal halide lamps.
“All of our streetlights are metered, so we only pay for what we consume,” said Tracy Kring, deputy clerk for the town of Mountain View. The metered streetlights will also provide public works officials with exact measurements of energy consumption, which will allow the town to compare actual energy savings with projected savings. The anticipated reduced energy consumption will result in significant savings for the town’s annual streetlight budget.
“We have already received very positive feedback from the community, even though the LED streetlight installation was only recently completed,” said Kring. The installation is located on arterial roadways on Hwy 414 and Hwy 410.
