Nova Scotia Power seeks to identify interested vendors for LED streetlight project involving 25,000 fixtures

Nova Scotia Power, Inc. (NSPI), an electric utility providing power to the Canadian province of Nova Scotia, is in the process of evaluating suppliers of LED streetlights for a planned installation. Recent legislation stipulates that all of the province’s existing roadway streetlights be converted to LED streetlights with the implementation period for the streetlight conversion to take place over a five year period. Nova Scotia Power owns and maintains about 120,000 streetlights throughout the province.
A Request for Information/Expression of Interest (RFI/EOI) was issued on September 23, 2011. The RFI/EOI will be used to identify manufacturers whose LED streetlight fixtures meet standards of proven and reliable technology, can meet NSPI’s standards specifications for LED streetlights, and are competitive from a cost, technology, service and warranty standpoint. Preliminary specifications call for an initial quantity of 25,000 LED streetlights to replace existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights which range from 70 watt to 400 watts.
Although the RFI/EOI document indicates that the Intent to Respond date was September 30, 2011, the document does not state that submissions after that date will be rejected. According to the RFI/EOI document, late submissions may not be accepted and may be returned to sender.
