After two years of studies and discussions with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the purchase of approximately 3,100 LED streetlights.
In 2009, the city of Pittsburgh implemented an energy efficient streetlight pilot project to assess various technologies. Based on results of the pilot installation, city officials determined that LED technology was the most effective application for the city’s roadways.
The initial project will be funded by a $816,105 grant from the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority. According to the office of Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, the city anticipates that the LED streetlights will reduce energy and maintenance costs by approximately $110,000 per year.
Completed bids must be submitted to the City of Pittsburgh by July 20, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Complete bid documents can be found here.
