Richmond, California, issues LED streetlight bid valued at $1.2 million and specifies BetaLED, LED Roadway, and Philips Lumec fixtures

The city of Richmond, California, has issued a Request for Bids for a capital improvement project focused on the installation of energy efficient LED streetlights. The project includes the removal of existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights and the installation of approximately 760 LED streetlight luminaires on the city’s roadways. A total of 750 LED cobrahead fixtures and 10 decorative LED fixtures will be installed. The project value is estimated at $1.26 million.

 

The project roadways indicated in the bid document are Cutting Boulevard, Richmond Parkway, 23rd Street and San Pablo Avenue. The scope of work consists of removing and recycling existing streetlights, installation of LED streetlights, and installing conductors and pull boxes and Richmond Parkway and Cutting Boulevard.

 

The largest number of fixtures will be installed on Richmond Parkway. According to the bid document, 274 LED streetlights, manufactured by BetaLED, a division of Cree/Ruud Lighting, of Sturtevant, Wisconsin, are specified. The energy efficient fixtures, which are equivalent to 143 watts, will replace existing 150 watt, 200 watt and 250 watt HPS streetlights. All fixtures will be fitted with photocells.

 

On 23rd Street, approximately 211 HPS streetlights will be replaced with 143 watt equivalent BetaLED streetlight fixtures. The new LED fixtures will also be fitted with photocells. 97 BetaLED fixtures will be installed on San Pablo Avenue, also replacing existing 100 watt, 200 watt and 400 watt HPS streetlights.

 

According to the bid document, 125 LED luminaires manufactured by LED Roadway, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, will be installed on Cutting Boulevard. The new fixtures will replace existing 200 watt, 250 watt and 400 watt HPS streetlights, and will include NEMA Type II photocells. The Cutting Boulevard installation will also include 9 decorative LED streetlights manufactured by Philips Lumec, of Quebec, Canada.

 

The anticipated start date for the project is March 12, 2012. A mandatory pre-bidders meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PST on January 5, 2012, at the City of Richmond Engineering Department, 450 Civic Center Plaza. Complete bid documents must be submitted to the City of Richmond by 1:30 p.m. PST on January 12, 2012. Bid documents can be downloaded from the city’s website.
