Rossford, Ohio, issues RFP for decorative LED streetlights

Funded by an award from the US Department of Energy, the city of Rossford, Ohio, seeks proposals as the first step in the city’s initial LED streetlight installation. The city of Rossford received a grant totaling $210,474 for energy efficient projects, which include efforts involving LED streetlights, traffic and pedestrian signal heads and school zone flashers. The grant is provided through an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and is locally administered by the Ohio Department of Development. A portion of the EECBG grant will be used to purchase and install eleven new LED streetlights and poles.
According to the bid document, the project includes removing seven existing light poles and installing eleven decorative poles and decorative LED fixtures. “The grant has enabled us to start this pilot program in energy efficient streetlighting,” said Edward Ciecka, city administrator for the city of Rossford. The streetlight installation is being tested as part of an enhancement program for the city’s downtown area. “We are trying to change some of the aesthetics of the downtown area, and we felt that changing some of the streetlighting was a good place to start,” said Ciecka. The new LED streetlights will replace existing high pressure sodium (HPS) cobrahead fixtures.
According to Ciecka, the city evaluated LED fixtures manufactured by Kim Lighting of City of Industry, California, and is specifying those fixtures, or an equivalent, for the current bid. The project will start this December and is slated for completion in approximately four months. Complete bids for all aspects of the project must be submitted to the city of Rossford by December 8, 2011. The bid advertisement can be found here.
