The city of San Pablo, California, has been awarded $169,886 for an LED streetlight replacement project. The project will be funded by a grant from the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. EECBG funds are administered locally by the California Energy Commission (CEC).

San Pablo city officials estimate that the EECBG award will be used for up to eighty-five LED streetlights as well as some LED parking lot fixtures. “The majority of the city’s streetlights are owned and maintained by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), but the funding will only replace city-owned streetlights in the city of San Pablo,” said Karineh Samkin, environment programs analyst for the city of San Pablo. The eight-five fixtures targeted for replacement are high pressure sodium cobra-head roadway streetlights.

The city is currently waiting to receive a signed contract from the CEC before commencing the LED streetlight project. “Once the signed contract is received, we will issue a request for proposals for the project,” said Samkin. The CEC contract is expected within the next several weeks. The RFP will most likely be issued by late summer 2010 and will be publicly advertised and made available on the city of San Pablo website.
