The city of San Ramon, California, is preparing to solicit bids for the installation of 349 LED streetlights along selected roadways within city limits. The Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) award of $215,600 will be used to fund the project along with utility rebates from Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). The award will be used to replace all existing city owned and maintained high pressure sodium (HPS) cobra head streetlights along San Ramon Valley Blvd and Alcosta Blvd. A partial replacement of streetlights will take place on Bollinger Canyon Rd. between Canyon Lakes Dr. and Dougherty Rd.
San Ramon, California recently issued a notice to LED streetlight manufacturers to present their products and qualifications to the city of San Ramon public services staff. Manufacturers of LED streetlights must have PG&E approved status. This list currently includes the following manufacturers: Beta LED, Cooper Streetworks, LED Roadway, Leotek and LSI Industries.
According to city officials, once products and manufacturers are reviewed, the city will issue a Request for Proposals for a turnkey installation program. The turnkey program will include, among other items, the provision and installation of LED fixtures and removal of existing HPS fixtures.
