Santa Ana, California, issues RFP for 253 LED streetlights

The city council of Santa Ana, California recently approved a department of public works recommendation to replace existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights with LED streetlight fixtures. The project is funded by an award from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The EECBG program is locally administered by the California Energy Commission (CEC). The new LED streetlight fixtures will be installed on two arterial roadways in the city of Santa Ana.

 

Public works officials have designated Main Street and Edinger Avenue for the streetlight replacement project. Initial plans specify the purchase and installation of 253 new LED streetlight fixtures to replace existing HPS streetlight fixtures. The existing 250 watt HPS fixtures will be replaced with 140 watt equivalent LED fixtures. According to the scope of work, the Request for Proposals (RFP) calls for removal and disposal of existing luminaires; furnishing and installing new LED street lights and all testing, including photometric, to prove that furnished luminaires perform as specified.

 

The city’s bid document provides detailed project specifications including photometric performance which includes a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 4,000K ± 500K, a color rendering index (CRI) = 70, and a seven year full replacement warranty. Bidders must also provide documentation showing that one thousand or more of the submitted fixture have been sold to United States municipalities in the past three years. LED fixtures must also be pre-qualified by local utility, Southern California Edison. Complete bid documents can be found here.
