The Indiana Office of Energy Development (OED) will award $4.8 million to smaller cities, towns and counties to foster energy efficiency and conservation.
The funds were awarded in the second round of the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The OED will provide grants to Indiana’s municipalities which did not receive a formula grant in the first round of EECBG awards.
Awards can be used for the purchase of energy efficient retrofits, including LED streetlights. The deadline for applications is April 9, 2010. The maximum award for each project is $250,000. All grant funds must be expended and project activities completed by December 31, 2010.
According to OED officials, all applications must be submitted online, and applicants will be notified of an award or denial by email. Awards will be announced May 3, 2010.
