The city of Trenton, Michigan, a recipient of an Advanced Lighting Technology Demonstration Grant, has finalized plans for its first installation of LED streetlights. The energy efficient streetlight deployment is funded by a grant from the Michigan Energy Office (MEO), which was the recipient of federal funding from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. The EECBG grants are locally administered by the MEO. The city of Trenton was one of six Michigan communities awarded funding for energy efficient lighting pilots. Trenton was awarded $75,410.
The upcoming installation of 161 LED streetlights is showcasing the use of solid state lighting technology as a means for increasing municipal energy efficiency and reducing energy costs. Additional demonstration projects are taking place in Leelanau County, Muskegon County, Livonia, Green Oak Charter Township, and Owosso.
A Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued by the city of Trenton on January 30, 2012. The bid summary indicates that the project consists of a retrofit of existing metal halide streetlights with LED fixtures. The first component of fixtures includes a total of seventy nine 250 watt equivalent LED fixtures as a replacement for 250 watt metal halide and high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights. The second component includes the purchase of eighty two 150 watt equivalent LED fixtures as a replacement for 150 watt metal halide and HPS streetlights.
Complete bids must be submitted to the city of Trenton, Michigan, by 10:00 a.m. February 14, 2012. Bid documents may be obtained from the office of the Trenton city engineer. The summary of the LED streetlight conversion project can be found here.
