Waco, Texas, issues request for bids for 1,847 LED streetlights

The city of Waco, Texas, plans to deploy 1,847 LED streetlights. Following an evaluation of energy efficient technology for streetlighting, city officials have elected to install LED streetlights on city-owned streetlights. The project will be funded by an award from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program. Waco received $1,246,000 in EECBG funds which were targeted for energy efficient lighting programs for building lighting as well as streetlighting. A portion of the total grant will be used for the purchase of LED streetlights.
The city of Waco has issued a Request for Bids (RFB) for the purchase of approximately 1,847 LED streetlights including cobra head, shoebox and decorative fixtures to replace existing high pressure sodium (HPS) and mercury vapor streetlights. The quantity of fixtures is estimated and may change based on responses from bidders. The solicitation specifically requests unit prices on the following fixtures: (1) 625 cobra head LED fixtures 120-277 volt, (2) 170 cobra head LED fixtures 480 volt, (3) 112 35 watt LED lamp 1, 120-277 volt, (4) 288 35 watt LED lamp 480 volt, (5) 103 50 watt LED lamp 120-277 volt, (6) 370 acorn style globe fixtures. The RFB includes specifications for all of the fixture styles.
According to city officials, the city of Waco solicited LED streetlight manufacturers to submit fixtures for testing and pre-qualification for the upcoming streetlight project. Manufacturers whose fixtures met the city’s specifications included: LED Illumination, Inc., Duralight, and Excellence Opto.
The deadline for submitting completed bids is March 30, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. CT to the Purchasing Services Office, 1415 North Fourth Street, Waco, Texas 76707. Questions related to the bid should be submitted to Dennis Russell at dennisr@ci.waco.tx.us.
