Energy Savings Estimates of Light Emitting Diodes in Niche Applications
This white paper calculates the energy savings potential of using LEDs in a variety of lighting applications.
Roadway lights, which includes both streetlight lamps and highway lighting lamps, were estimated to have a total installed base of 52.6 million lamps in the United States in 2010.
The total savings of a hypothetical complete switch to LED fixtures in 2010 would have been 20.2 terawatt hours, the equivalent of the electricity consumed by over one and a half million homes in the United States.
