Preparing to launch a deployment of 43 LED streetlights, the city of Independence, Missouri, is already assessing potential vendors and plans to release an RFP for the project in 2010.
Independence has received approval for its Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) and is preparing to launch a 43 LED streetlight project which will cost $38,000. City officials view this initial project as a pilot opportunity to test and evaluate the effectiveness of LED streetlights.
Gerry McReynolds, support services manager in the Power and Light department of Independence, says, “We will be evaluating three potential sites for the pilot project.” Reynolds has already been contacted by three LED streetlight manufacturers and is currently assessing potential vendors. “We expect to release an RFP for the project after the new year,” said Reynolds.
