Vancouver, Washington, to choose between select vendors for LED streetlight project

The city of Vancouver, Washington, plans to deploy forty LED streetlights along the main artery of Fruit Valley Road. With the Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funding allocation of $40,000, the city hopes to maximize the number of installed lights by providing its own labor for installation. According to city officials, the lights in the pilot will be metered to accurately measure actual energy use reduction and cost savings.
Once the funding allocation is received, an invitation to bid will be issued to vendors identified as approved by the Bonneville Power Administration. The approved vendors must also meet Vancouver’s specific requirements including photometric standards. Tim Buck, Vancouver Public Works Superintendent, said, “We are basically looking at two vendors at this point, BetaLED and Leotek. That’s not to say, however, that we won’t also look at other vendors on the approved list”.
City officials intend to issue the Invitation to Bid as soon as the EECBG funds have been received by the city.
