The US Department of Energy has announced that the Pennsylvania cities of Altoona and Abington Township will receive federal stimulus funds for LED streetlight deployments.
These two cities are among the earliest confirmed recipients of federal funding for streetlight conversion.
Abington Township will receive $500,400, a portion of which is set aside for the conversion of incandescent and mercury vapor streetlights to LED streetlights.
Altoona will receive $205,700 of stimulus funds to convert 179 existing high pressure sodium streetlights to LED streetlights. The city is one of the first municipalities that will combine dedicated meters with the new LED streetlights. The meters will allow both the municipality and the utility to track actual energy consumption and savings.
