The city of Kelso, Washington, is planning to implement a 4 phase LED streetlight retrofit program.
The state of Washington has announced US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block (EECBG) awards, and funding recipient Kelso has initiated planning for a streetlight retrofit program.. Kelso will implement a 28 LED streetlight retrofit starting with an initial phase which will involve the conversion of 7 LED streetlights. Kelso has been awarded $130,000.
According to David Sypher, Public Works Director for the city of Kelso, “As of yet we are unsure as to how we will proceed with awarding the project. We will have to look carefully at the award guidelines to determine if we issue an RFP or use a vendor off of our small works roster.”
Changing traditional streetlights to LEDs has shown to reduce energy consumption by up to 50% and significantly reduce municipal electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions.
