Colorado Springs seeks LED streetlight information from potential vendors

The city of Colorado Springs, Colorado, is planning to launch a pilot project to convert 20 streetlights and has issued a Request for Information (RFI).
Colorado Springs owns and maintains 350 high pressure sodium and metal halide streetlights, which it hopes to replace with LED luminaires over time.
The RFI is a non-binding proposal used to gather information for budgetary and specification preparation purposes. According to Lee Jenniges, procurement analyst for the city of Colorado Springs, “We would like to see which vendors are out there and what their capabilities are.” Side-by-side comparison of streetlights from different manufacturers under laboratory and field conditions will allow officials to select streetlights best suited to Colorado Springs.
City officials anticipate releasing the RFP for the initial pilot project in January 2010.
