Federal funds will spark the first phase of LED streetlight conversion in Sparks, Nevada.
The recipient of $84,500 in federal Energy Efficiency Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) funding, the city of Sparks will retrofit 114 existing streetlights with energy efficient LED luminaires.
Sparks anticipates energy savings of up to 60% from the converted streetlights. The city’s public works department has already prepared a draft request for proposal (RFP) document which will be submitted to the city council.
According to Pete Etchart, deputy public works director for the city of Sparks, the RFP will likely be released in November 2009, and the city hopes to begin retrofitting lights in January 2010.
