The Public Lighting Authority (PLA) of Detroit, Michigan, issued an update for prospective bidders. According to the PLA, “The date for the submittal of questions from the bidders has been extended to 5:00 PM EST on Monday, February 17th.” See below for a story related to the Request for Proposals issued for the city’s LED streetlight program.
The Public Lighting Authority in the city of Detroit, Michigan, is planning an overhaul of the city’s entire streetlighting system with an installation of over 42,000 LED streetlights. The plan, approved by the PLA board, will be implemented over a two year period at a cost of about $160 million. The city is currently conducting two pilot projects to test LED streetlights in a variety of neighborhoods and evaluate performance of the solid-state streetlight fixtures.
According to PLA executive director, Odis Jones, the two pilot demonstration sites will be completed in May 2014, and then the large-scale installation will follow without interruption. The switch to LED streetlights is expected to save the city of Detroit approximately $2.5 million annually in energy costs and maintenance.
The PLA has not specified a particular manufacturer of LED streetlights for the project but rather is relying on performance and photometric data in the selection process. Respondents are asked to submit bids for 30,500 150 watt equivalent LED streetlights, 13,000 250 watt equivalent LED streetlights, and 7,000 400 watt equivalent LED streetlights. For all of the LED streetlight fixtures specifications include LM-79 and LM-80 reports and a CCT of 4,000-4,500 K.
The bid document can be accessed through the online bid processing system, Power Advocate. Questions and requests for clarification may be submitted to the PLA until Friday, February 14, 2014. Complete bids must be submitted to the PLA by Friday, February 21, 2014.
