The city of Hiawatha, Iowa, is seeking bids for an engineering design proposal for a scheduled street repair which includes LED streetlights. The project has been allocated $500,000 for design and construction by the city council. The project entails street repairs and the replacement of existing streetlights with LED streetlights.
The installation of LED streetlights will take place on 14th Avenue from Cress Parkway to Rainbow Drive and on Eisenhower Street from 9th Avenue to 10th Avenue.
No manufacturer has been specified for the proposed project. The successful bidder will work with energy provider, Alliant, on the streetlight modifications. The project is expected to begin in the spring of 2014.
The city of Hiawatha previously installed LED streetlights through an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). Twenty five LED streetlight fixtures were installed in 2012.
