Commercially available LED streetlight fixtures from EvoLucia, Inc., and Philips Roadway Lighting were selected for awards in the “Recognized” category of the 2010 Next Generation Luminaires (NGL) solid state lighting competition. “Recognized” means that the judging panel would recommend these LED luminaires to other specifiers.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and the International Association of Lighting Designers, the NGL competition was launched in 2008 to promote excellence in the design of energy efficient LED luminaires for general illumination in commercial lighting applications.
The panel of twelve judges, drawn from across the architectural lighting design community, independently evaluated the products by assessing their performance, appearance, construction, and photometric data.
The judges scored each entry on the following set of criteria:
color appearance, color rendering, appropriate illuminance, appropriate luminance, serviceability and replacement, energy efficiency, product depreciation data, dimmability, cost, and aesthetic appearance and style. Bonus points were awarded for the following attributes: adjustability/flexibility, innovation, and dark-sky friendliness.
