New Brunswick Power Distribution (NB Power), a Canadian power distribution company, is in the process of qualifying suppliers of LED streetlight luminaires. The goal of NB Power is to replace approximately 72,000 existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights with LED luminaires over a period of five years.
NB Power supplies power to over 380,000 customers throughout the province of New Brunswick, Canada. The power company also owns and maintains over 72,000 streetlights throughout the province. The existing HPS streetlights range from 100 watts to 400 watts, and all are targeted for replacement. Approximately twenty percent of the province’s streetlight inventory will be replaced each year for the duration of the project.
NB Power has issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) in order to pre-qualify suppliers of LED streetlight fixtures. All interested suppliers must respond to the RFQ and if selected, will be eligible to submit bids in response to an expected Request for Proposals (RFP). Only pre-qualified suppliers will be permitted to respond to the RFP. Responders to the RFQ must submit a sample fixture for evaluation.
Full details of performance and photometric requirements are listed in the RFQ document. A sample of product specifications includes a correlated color temperature (CCT) ≤ 5000 Kelvin and a color rendering index (CRI) of 60. The fixture must also be dark sky compliant and include an LM-79 report.
Completed responses to the RFQ must be submitted to NB Power by May 18, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. Questions and clarifications may be submitted until May 14, 2012. NB Power anticipates issuing the first RFP by July or August 2012 for qualified bidders. Documentation can be found here.
