Sandy City, Utah, is preparing for the third phase of a multi-phase LED streetlight installation program. The city has already completed two LED streetlight installations as part of a road improvement project. The first installation involved 233 streetlight fixtures from BetaLED, of Racine, Wisconsin, and the second installation involved 105 BetaLED streetlight fixtures. The third phase, which also calls for BetaLED fixtures, requires 38 new LED streetlights. The projects are funded by an award from the US Department of Energy’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program.
“The roadway improvement project was primarily targeting roadway safety and that includes installing LED streetlights,” said Paul Browning, assistant public works director for the city of Sandy City. City officials are choosing to install BetaLED streetlight fixtures in the third installation for consistency and uniformity of appearance.
A request for proposals (RFP) has been issued for the 38 new LED streetlight fixtures. Bid specifications require a brand specific bid. Bid specifications are available from the Purchasing Department at Sandy City Hall, 10000 S. Centennial Parkway, Suite 330, Sandy Utah 84070. A summary of the RFP is available here. Sealed bids must be submitted by 10:00 a.m. on March 10, 2011, at the Sandy City Purchasing Department. According to city officials, an addendum to the original RFP document is expected in approximately one week.
