The city of Sarnia, Ontario, Canada is seeking to pre-qualify vendors to supply LED streetlights for upcoming installations. All vendors will initially be evaluated by Bluewater Power Services Corporation, the city’s streetlight maintenance contractor. Once all proposals are evaluated, successful vendors may be asked to demonstrate proposed LED streetlight luminaires. Successful vendors may also be asked to submit their proposed LED streetlight fixtures for a short term pilot installation. Following the pilot installations, these vendors will then be invited to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP).
The city plans to install LED fixtures which are equivalent to existing mercury vapor streetlights. These fixtures include 175 watt, 250 watt, and 400 watt streetlights.
Selected requirements include a type 2 or type 3 distribution pattern, a correlated color temperature of 4,000 – 4,500 K, LM-79 and LM-80 reports, dark sky compliance, and a minimum ten year warranty on the entire LED luminaire, including photocells. Vendors are also asked to indicate the number of LED streetlight luminaires sold since January 1, 2010, the length of time the vendor’s LED streetlight luminaires have been commercially available on the market, and the number of model design upgrades since being introduced into the market.
