The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently released a snapshot report on the LED Lighting Facts database of outdoor LED luminaires. The Snapshot provides a comparison of outdoor LED lighting products, including LED streetlights.
Among a number of conclusions in the report, it was found that one of the largest areas of potential growth is in the 400 watt LED roadway luminaire category as large and small cities plan for future LED streetlight installations. Few products are currently on the market which can effectively serve as alternatives to incumbent technology.
LED Lighting Facts and the Snapshot Reports focus on five core metrics: lumen output, input power, luminous efficacy, color rendering
index, and correlated color temperature. All of the data is voluntarily supplied by manufacturers for products tested in accordance with the LM-79 program.
