The city of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, has issued a Request for Proposals for the purchase of LED streetlight luminaires. The project is part of the city’s effort, in cooperation with energy provider BC Hydro, to convert existing streetlighting to energy efficient LED technology. The streetlight replacement also includes the use of adaptive technology, which enables the city to control aspects such as dimming or programming specific use. The proposed installation includes the purchase of 500 cobrahead LED streetlight luminaires which will replace existing high pressure sodium (HPS) streetlights.
The city of Vancouver is targeting various municipal roadways for the upcoming project. These roadways include lanes, residential streets, arterial roadways, and intersections. All are currently illuminated by HPS streetlights, ranging from 70 watts to 250 watts. The new LED streetlights will be installed on existing poles. According to city officials, LED luminaires are expected to reduce energy consumption by at least 40 percent.
Selected photometric requirements include a correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3,000 K – 4,500 K, and a color rendering index (CRI) of 70 for all four roadway applications of the LED luminaires, as well as LM-79 and LM-80 reports, and certification of dark sky compliance. Bidders may be asked to submit one sample of each luminaire for field tests. Bidders may also state if their product is listed as a BC Hydro approved LED incentive product.
